General geographical education and the national interests of Russia

The article approaches education as a paramount human good and emphasizes its critical importance in the contemporary era. The article examines the role and significance of school-level geographical education within the context of Russia’s national interests. It identifies the fundamental structural units that elucidate the purposes of education and regulate the formation of the nation’s intellectual and spiritual potential. The article provides a concise assessment of geography’s educational potential and highlights the role of schools in the upbringing of youth. The relevance of this work is underscored by the growing interest in utilizing pedagogical tools, including school geography, to address national security concerns. Strategic priorities related to the national security of the Russian Federation are presented as foundational, ideology-shaping knowledge. Based on these priorities, the study offers new approaches to enhancing the educational process. The analysis focuses on the institutions of teaching and learning and moral and values education, teacher education, and education studies. Issues of intellectual and spiritual security, which hold particular significance for the realization of Russia’s strategic plans, are examined as subjects of debate. It is posited that the most vital source for furnishing society with life-affirming values is education studies and teacher education, including that with a geographical focus.
